The mental meteor shower is gone. I can see clearly again and wow was that weird. For a moment there I could have sworn I just saw across the entire expanse of the galaxy.

“Stella!” Grandad’s voice rings out through the docking chamber. “What are you doing down there?”

Oops. I’m busted.

Apparently this ship might not have verbal communications capabilities, but apparently it has an intercom system that works just fine on volume levels.

“What was that, Grandad?” I hastily change the subject of my absence from the bridge.

“We went to warp speed!” My father’s echoing voice replies. “Wasn’t it amazeballs?”

“Dad?”

Amazeballs? Warp drive?

What is he now? A spaceman from Essex?

Hang on…

“Did you say warp speed? Dad! Are we in outer space?!”

“We certainly are, sweetheart!”

“Dad. WHY are we in space? Where are we going?”

“Stella.” Mum’s voice echoes throughout the chamber. “WHY did you leave the bridge, you could have been injured!”

Uh oh. I think Mum’s mad. If standing in the midst of a bunch of hostile looking aliens isn’t enough to scare me as much as the thought of my mother’s wrath, then I know for certain I’m in deep trouble.
